In an artist curated show, FEAST Projects exhibits selected works of seven gallery artists: expressing their perspectives and insights into the human experience. The main themes explored are subjectivity and personal narrative, and individual conflict with the dictates of globalization and mass communication. "The word 'accrochage' in French has a double meaning: hanging and skirmish. The works hanging are also struggling to expose the dilemmas we are confronted by in our contemporary world." states Philippe Koutouzis, Director of FEAST Projects. On view will be works of gallery artists: Feng Shuo, Fensterbank, Liu Wei (b.1965), Marlène Mocquet, Carr Patterson, Tie Ying and Xie Lei.
About the Artists
Feng Shuo - Chinese A contemporary painter with a unique and personal vision. His is an allegorical and oneric universe where dolls, puppets, men, women and animals play out the drama of life.
Fensterbank - French Has a diplomatic background in Hong Kong and China and is fluent in Chinese. His work relates to John Heartfield and the surrealist movement. He produces powerful collages criticizing and ridiculing the Chinese communist party and its leaders.
Liu Wei (b.1965) - Chinese Considered by many to be the most important artist of the post 1989 generation; His painting is both rebellious and cynical. While emulating the classical masters of China, he also claims his freedom without any restraint.
Marlène Mocquet - French She creates a world akin to Bosch and the fantastic visions of Goya. Her works are like the tortured dreams of a child, often displaying an innocent cruelty to her subjects.
Carr Patterson – American She explores how beauty is valued and used by society, its objectification and its limiting nature. Her universe revolves around the iconic figure of a “bunny girl” representing the female coming of age.
Tie Ying - Chinese He challenges our aesthetic sense through political images. His aim is to “present a new perspective on life's dilemmas and confirm the supremacy of freedom of thought and expression whilst demonstrating the absurdities and conflicts between them”.
Xie Lei - Chinese Part of the “New Generation”, he is a fresh, young painter living and working in Paris. He takes us on a dreamlike journey, inventing and recording moments of contradictory beauty in our contemporary world.
