Zee Stone Gallery will be presenting a solo exhibition by Qiao Shiguang (b.1937), featuring his lacquer paintings. The artist is one of the foremost exponents in China of the demanding technique of lacquer painting. This artist has travelled the length and breadth of his native land, and this is reflected in his landscape paintings, which range from Jiangnan canal scenes to Tibetan monasteries, from Sichuanese towns on the Yangtze river to the fortress-like houses of Huizhou. The artist also excels in rendering figure and still-life subjects in the lacquer medium.
Qiao Shiguang is a former colleague and close friend of the world renowned artist, Wu Guanzhong; both artists have collaborated on a series of calligraphic paintings which feature in the exhibition.
