Robert Niesse is a young German artist from Cologne specialising in abstraction.
His paintings are ,strong compositions of vertical & horizontal bands of colour which sweep across the canvas and blur into each other, creating the illusion of an unfocussed, mysterious image. His technique is a vigorous application of thick layers of paint with squeegee, knife and brush which squeeze, cut and scrape the image onto the canvas.
There is a strong tradition of abstraction in Germany, and Robert Niesse is a worthy contemporary representative of that tradition. At Zee Stone Gallery we also have a strong tradition of exhibiting abstract art, and we are delighted to continue that tradition with Robert Niesse in his first exhibition in Asia.
