Zee Stone Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of surrealist paintings by Wei Shaodong, an exciting young artist from southern China.
Wei Shaodong takes inspiration from classical master painters, both Western and Chinese, from eminent Chinese historical figures and from the Chinese landscape painting tradition. The original figures are depicted in classical textile designs against an abstracted background rendered in pastel colour shades. Landscapes include motifs based on antique objects and Buddha figures, as well as contemporary icons.
Wei Shaodong was born in 1971 in Guangxi province, studied art at university in Beijing, and is now an artist and a lecturer in art.
