Wellington Gallery is proud to present Lu Yuanjun, a talented artist for the first time in Hong Kong.
Lu Yuanjun, born in the 50’s, is one of the most accomplished avant-grade artists in China. He receives no formal education and could neither speaks or writes. However, with his exceptional positive attitude towards life, he has taught himself the art of painting.
“Dressed to kill ” is considered as his most influential series in Lu's career. This series presents the conflicts between two distinctive generations in modern China - classical 'red stars' and 'army uniforms' from Mao's Communist regime conjoins with westernized make-up and accessories that only came to China after the economic reform in late 80's.
Lu’s exquisite painting style reveals the touching beauty and flawless skin texture of his female characters, sexual in its sexuality, passionate in its oppression. However, 'they were all just delusion and fantasies,' he expressed, 'what we see today are all fakes, ignorance and also indifferences.'
