Karin Weber Gallery welcomes back Tina Buchholtz from Berlin for her second solo exhibition at the gallery.
The painting “From Coast To Coast" is visualizing a fictive coastline with routes/trade routes and paths across a country. There is a richness of variations like China with its different regions. The artist used the colour red and yellow to symbolize Chinese mood. "Jade Beach" reminds viewers the turquoise-coloured tropical beaches in all shades of blue and green, with the golden sky mirrored on the water surface.
The paintings are done using nothing more than the spatula blade. The artist presses the blade against the paint and then immediately onto the canvas, so that a fine line becomes visible. This meticulous process is repeated over and over again until a hatching of fine lines develops into a composition. The layering of densely crisscrossing strands interspersed with translucent glaze gives rise to an impression of depth and three-dimension. The fine, relief-like structures create patterns of shade as the light moves, so that images change according to lighting.
