Grotto Fine Art takes great pleasure in presenting Hong Kong artist Leung Ching-man’s first one-woman exhibition. One of most promising young artists, Leung’s surrealistic painting captivates the audience with its myriad manifestations and redefine the relationship between printed and painted images. On display will be a body of work from 2007 – 2010, featuring abstract compositions, landscape and still-life compositions.
Stamp has played in central role in the development of print-making throughout the ages. From usage in seal carving to the modern medium of rubber stamps and woodcut, artists are constantly redefining its role to suit their contemporary identity. Hong Kong artist Leung Ching-man is the latest proponent in this genre. Her imprints are created by hand-made rubber stamps, done by meticulously carving in reverse to deliberate an abstract expression and power through contours and forms. Combined with her beautifully painted motifs, the theme of romance and mundane activities are presented in a complex juxtapositions and layering of printed and painted images.
Leung Ching-man was born in Hong Kong in 1979. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2002 and is currently a Master of Fine Art Candidate (2010) at that university.
