"I have always been interested in photography but only started seriously pursuing it in 2009. The first camera I bought was a FM Nikon which was all I could afford at the time. As it was a fully manual camera I was forced to chose the aperture and metering for each picture which led to many incorrectly exposed images. My photos were mainly snapshots and family photos. I even had a dark room in my basement at one stage. However, other commitments and raising a young family forced a long hiatus from photography.

My interest in photography was rekindled in 2009 while on safari in Tanzania. I brought my first digital camera, the Canon SX10 for its long zoom function. Although the camera was not ideal for safari, I rediscovered the joy of photography. Following this, I joined NPN to learn about nature photography. After receiving advice from other members, I bought the Nikon D90, lenses and other equipment.

We all know that photography is about capturing the interaction of light on forms in a moment in time. As a histopathologist in my daytime job, I spend most of my day peering down microscopes and it seemed natural for me to be drawn towards macro and floral photography. I am fascinated by how one is able to manipulate both light and forms with floral photography. This has encouraged me to experiment with LED light as well as non-visible X-ray. I have also started learning Ikebana to improve my floral form arrangement skill.

Capturing new and interesting images brings me much enjoyment and I endeavour to use all proceeds from those images for charitable causes."- Gary Yeoh
