Artist Statement:
If you ever fall in love with someone out of control, you may understand how I feel towards shadows. It was like an instinct for me to follow the shadows. With a month traveling around Cuba by myself, I never felt lonely as everywhere was paved with shadows. Suddenly, I got the idea of taking a set of photos with the theme of “Shadows of Cuba”.
Shadows reflect the shape of the real-self, at the same time, interact with the surface it lays on. Shadows are unpredictable, it changes with time, directions and angles of the sun. Shadows are moments.
Shadows led me to see a different Cuba. You might see a lot of photos of Cuba with classic cars, Che, Salsa, bands and Spanish houses. They are all eye-catching and significant. However, I would never be able to explore this beautiful tapestry of Cuban life without the shadows. Sometimes, shadows even carry the wisdom of life.
