Art Experience Gallery proudly presents a solo photograph exhibition of the Hong Kong artist M.C. to Hong Kong art lovers.

M.C. is a local born artist who began his career as a professional photographer and photographic artist in 2005. A graduate of Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) in Photography from RMIT University, Australia / co-presented by Hong Kong Art School, who is now studying Master of Arts in Fine Arts at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. M.C. is working as a lecturer at Hong Kong Design Institute and The Open University of Hong Kong. He has exhibited in Hong Kong and China and just received the University of the Arts London Scholarships 2015 from Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

To welcome 2015, Art Experience Gallery is delighted to announce our upcoming exhibition featuring recent works by M.C., who’s been sponsored for his exhibition “Full and Emptiness” in 2014 by Art Experience Foundation, his work describes his personal feelings from observing how visitors are emotionally connected to the fantasy world, Disneyland, and documents the full and emptiness that appeared between the surreal imaginary boundary and our existing reality.

T Here, an upcoming show of M.C.’s recent photographs at Art Experience Gallery continues the artist’s poetic expressions that focus on a more serious topic in life this time. This series of photos were taken with macro photography at a local coffin shop, the artist was capturing the interior of a paper model of a house, intended to be burnt as a gift to the dead in Chinese funeral rites.

Chinese paper offerings have been around for centuries and such elaborated houses for the dead crafted with such detail, made M.C. rethink our desire in life. Is that more a desire of the living or dead? And by burning the “gift” will it allow our desire to go beyond death? The idea of receiving a paper designer house, paper Porsches and paper yachts and the like after death seems ironic to the living ones’ reality, yet it may comfort a lot of people’s soul, both existing and past.

M.C.’s work shows a touch of sadness against the shades of orange radiates warmth and happiness. The harmony sorrow fills the empty space in the “house”, with the perfect furnished deco from the living’s dream.
