Art Experience Gallery proudly presents ‘Hidden Retort’, the debut Jia Jing solo exhibition in Hong Kong, from 10 February through 30 March 2012.
We are in the generation of hyper technology; there is enormous information feeding us infinitely every day. Jia Jing sensitively receives and selects in this Information-explosion Era and projects his force, aura and mentality with the tranquil and gentle imagery on his canvas.
Jia Jing has great interest in weapons for years. In his early works, we can easily recognize firearms, soldiers or any war-related weapons that we can think of. The artist aims to reveal the hidden violence in the subconsciousness of human beings via depiction of war scenes and iconic anti-war celebrities such as Jimi Hendrix and Michael Jackson. Jia Jing wittily softens the deadly machinery and smooths them into a series of aesthetic pictures. Apparently peace and calm are precipitated only. On the contrary, it is a form frozen power. The artist believes that such aesthetics judgment of imagery carried a hidden field of force is an ultimate retort to the violence itself.
Jia Jing introspects persistently in the creative process. His concepts are nurtured and become more mature through practices. We would realize that the direct depiction is going to fade. After all, the artist is insistent in the sentiment of anti-establishment and nonviolent approach. In this exhibition, Art Experience will be showcasing his latest collection after the consolidation and precipitation of his thoughts. There are various words and characters superimposed on the fragmented and broken images. The appearance of texts not only strengthens the pictorial features of his work, but also forms intextuality with the images. The subtle play of images and characters is always his artistic signature.
