Unveiling Nanfei’s Curtain
by Art Experience Gallery
Location: Art Experience Gallery
Artist(s): WANG Nan Fei
Date: 20 Oct - 2 Dec 2011

Art Experience Gallery is proud to present, “Unveiling Nanfei’s Curtain”, Wang Nanfei’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong from 21 Oct through 2 Dec, 2011 featuring her “One World One Dream” series depicting the street scenes of Beijing during the elusive time of the 2008 Olympic Games. The theme explored the ambivalent attitude and behaviour of the people through their frustration, tension, excitement, patriotism and hope. This series of paintings reflect people’s real-life dreams and desires in relationship to the essence and spirit of the city. The large iconic painting “Golden Water Bridge 2” has made the deepest and all-rounded expression of the theme. Moreover, over 20 pieces of Nanfei’s works in different periods will showcase in an array of media, oil on canvas, sculptures in wood and figure created in paper as well.

Nanfei’s work illustrates the progression of the artist’s perspective and experience in today’s urban living in Beijing. The bird’s eye view from the balcony of her apartment amazed her; boulevards packed with vehicles and infinite crowds of people, gives the artist a new introspection. She found herself an isolated, remote individual in the metropolis, eventually, becomes part of it. In other words, the others reflect a part of her. She frames her work like a cinematographer, in which she addresses the absurdity of public life in her paintings with delicate brushstrokes and depicts her private lives through installations and sculptures in exaggerated forms and bright colours.

Prior to this exhibition, Nanfei was a guest artist at “The 23rd International Artforum”, Castle Eichhofen, Germany, last year. Her work has been widely exhibited at prestigious galleries and museums, such as 500X Gallery, the McKinney Avenue Contemporary and UNT Gallery in Texas, Regiment Amory in New York, National Art Museum of China and China International Exhibition Centre in Beijing.
