CAIS Gallery Wong Kong is pleased to present first solo exhibition of Mayuka Yamamoto, who is well known for the work with children wearing animal features. Since her first solo exhibition in Japan in 1992, she has been actively working through participating around thirty solo exhibitions in both regions of Asia /including China, Taiwan, Korea) and Europe headed by her solo shows at Canvas International Art in Amsterdam (2009, 2007) and a group show in Sweden.
Through the scene of children, Yamamoto creates both adorable and ridiculous atmosphere within obscure silhouettes and neutral expression of pasty-faced boys. The sense of peculiarity makes people instantly stop by and confront the work. This is also her motivation and desire toward the world of her work. In her recent works, children are more often placed in landscape which offer more depth and enhance its mysteriousness.
This exhibition will introduce 10 new works (2011) including "Three Deer", "Two Black Wolves", and "Wolf Mask" along with 7 works from the past (2008-2010). The viewers in reality will be able to walk and encounter inside the yeil of infinitely transparent and innocent space.
