Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta 2011

Juried by the HKOP judging panel, three Hong Kong Open Printshop Purchase Awards will be granted to the Award Winners of the “XinYiDai – an International University Students Exchange Exhibition” which is the feature exhibition of the Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta 2011 (HKGAF 2011).  HKGAF 2011 celebrates over 160 student works from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Italy, Macao, Malaysia, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.  For most of the students, this is their first time to stage at an international exhibition and it is also a unique opportunity for the Hong Kong and mainland China art communities to see the broad scope of graphic art created at schools.

As the organizer of the Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta 2011, Hong Kong Open Printshop recognizes the impact of computers and digital art in traditional printmaking as well as the trend of seeking alternative solutions by printmakers to explore the boundaries of “printmaking/graphic art” by merging traditional and modern elements.  Thus they dedicate the printmaking exhibition this year to celebrate the latest developments and trends in digital-era by introducing student printmakers from universities around the world.  The highlight of Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta 2011 is the first printmaking tour exhibition named “XinYiDai! An International University Students Exchange Exhibition” which will be held in both Shenzhen and Hong Kong for the art enthusiasts in both cities to appreciate graphic art. 

“XinYiDai! An International University Students Exchange Exhibition” will showcase hybrids of traditional printmaking and digital technology.  Through the exhibits, public can experience the bold creations of young artists.  Printmaking has taken new forms which are inspired by digital art, sculpture, photography etc – graphic art is a vibrant and exciting form of art.  Printmaking is now not only embraced art on paper, but also works like “printstallations” and “sequential images” that integrating lighting, sound, time and space.

Hong Kong Open Printshop will grant the HKOP Purchase Award of categories including 2D Print, Printstallation as well as Sequential Images.  The winners will be awarded with Hong Kong Open Printshop Purchase Award of USD1,000 as well as the “Artist-in-Residence 2012@ the Hong Kong Visual Art Centre” which granted by the Art Promotion Office to undertake a 2-month residency in Hong Kong in 2012. 

“XinYiDai! An International University Students Exchange Exhibition” will be first commenced at Guan Shanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen from August 5 to 28 as one of the cultural programmes to celebrate the Universiade Shenzhen 2011.  The exhibition will then take place at the Exhibition Hall, Shatin Town Hall from September 29 to October 16.

Art enthusiasts from all over the world are able to participate in this Fiesta by logging onto the Virtual Gallery of the Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta 2011.  Not only this virtual platform enables art enthusiasts to view the works online, but it also acts as a communication platform for young artists around the world to share and express their ideas.  Hong Kong Graphic Art Fiesta 2011 will offer a new perspective on printmaking and graphic art to the community.
