To celebrate their expansion and relocation, they present the Grand Opening Exhibition "Woven Sentiments" by one of Hong Kong's top artists Man Fung-yi. Man has been invited to participate in many local and international group exhibitions, so it is a great privilege for us and all art lovers that for the first time in 5 years, she is having a solo gallery show. “Woven Sentiments” is an exclusive presentation of her latest artworks where she reinvents the traditional art of needlework by creating sculptures of clothing out of metal threads. While they are visually intriguing, they also explore issues on femininity, Daoist philosophies and Chinese tradition.
For ancient Chinese ladies, needlework was a means to express affection and pray for blassings. Hong Kong contemporary artist Man Fung Yi reinvents this tradition by embroidering with sticks of incense and knitting with metal threads. Making use of her own and her family's clothing, she createsmetal-woven dresses, jackets, shoes and bags. Whilst they are dazzling sculptures, they are also intimate records of their lives and bodies at a specific time and space, carries of memories, and the product of t artist's every day sentiments.
