Fresh Ink, with its fluidity, strength, surprising and intriguing chemistry with paper, photography and video, is an art form that is increasingly gaining recognition in the global art scene, especially in the Asian contemporary art market. It is the most audacious and idealistic movement in contemporary culture, and is poised to shortly enter the mainstream of the art-world’s focus. Originating as a traditional Chinese cultural symbol in the past few centuries, ink painting has set ground-breaking standards in aesthetics throughout its long and varied history but has not been widely appreciated in foreign cultures. Building on the Asian Fresh Ink Movement last year, Galerie Ora-Ora will present a series of works by a group of prominent Fresh Ink artists.
Cindy Ng, one featured artist, expresses her passion of Fresh Ink through video and photographs. Fluid, soft and dynamic brushstrokes of Fresh Ink come into motion. This collision of forces brings energy and excitement to the piece, as well as a sense of harmony and equilibrium.
Another highlighted artist, Kum Chi Keung, integrates his artistic signature - bird cages, with traditional Chinese ink landscape painting. In his pieces, he reexamines and reconstitutes New Ink art over fresh medium, such as crystal polymer and black granite, to expose unique dimensions of this medium.
