LI Xiao biography | artworks | events

1969
Born in Pengan, Sichuan, Li Xiao is the fourth child in the family.  He has two elder brothers, one sister and one younger brother. Li’s father who formerly served in the Liberation Army as an Art Soldier and painted numerous propaganda images during the Cultural Revolution became an inspiring figure to Li’s artistic life.


1986-92
Li graduated from Junior High School and studied at a local education institute.� School and studied at a local education institute.  He became a primary school teacher but could not hold back his passion in art thus decided to apply for the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts.


1992-95
Li earned a seat in the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts with excellent examination results; where he was mentored by famous artists Zhang Xiaogang and Ye Yongqing.  Li graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1995 and became an art teacher in a private art institute in Chongqing.  He held his solo exhibition “In and Out” in Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts.


1996-99
Li decided to become a full time artist and attempted different art projects including the 300m Outdoor Mural Painting Project: “Paradise” organized by Chongqing School of Arts and indoor installation projects to enrich his artistic experience.


2000
Li Xiao moved to Beijing to pursue a more professional path of art and started to develop his “Warrior Series”.  His works won high acclaims from the public. He then joined the “Chinese Contemporary Art Invitational Fair” in Beijing.


2001-04
Li was actively involved in the art community in Beijing and joined the “Clue to the Future” exhibition in 2001. He participated in the “Shanghai Art Exposition” in 2002 and the “Singapore International Art Exposition” in 2004 and held two solo exhibitions of his Warrior Series in Beijing in 2004.


2005
Li was invited to Hamburg and Munich to hold a solo exhibition, which turned out to be a huge success.  His exhibition was widely covered by major art magazines including ARTinvest and newspapers and over 90% of his works were sold and collected by private collectors.
