Ha Bik Chuen was born in Xinhui, Guangdong, China 1925. During the war, he fled to Macau and finally settled in Hong Kong in 1957. Ha was basically self-taught, the old building in Tokwawan where he has been inhabiting for 40 years has become the heaven for his artistic creation. Now as a senior artist in Hong Kong, Ha’s works ranging from early print-making, sculpture, photograph and now ink-painting. His work is full of local characteristics and individuality. He was the winner of the Award for Arts Achievements (Visual Arts) granted by Hong Kong Arts Development Council. He alone has held over 12 exhibitions in Hong Kong, Taipei, Canada and China whereas he has been representing Hong Kong to participate in many important exhibitions overseas such as The Beijing International Biennial Exhibition, The Norwegian International Print Biennial and The Asian International Art Exhibition (AIAE). Ha is recently focusing on preparing for his coming solo retrospective exhibition at Hong Kong Art Museum in the year 2009.
