The New Figuration exhibition at Tào Evolution is an exploration of the expressive nature of the body through quick linear gestures as interpreted by three outstanding contemporary artists. Together, the works are an exploration of our existence in concert with the unending cycles of living and dying, and the passage along the way.
Nancy Doolan is a Professor at the Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, Georgia, and has exhibited paintings and drawings throughout the United States for over 30 years. Her figure drawings have been described as “Contemporary Renaissance” in style, as they are characterized by finely drawn and overlapping figures engaged in a flowing composition of poses and gestures, making it difficult to determine where one figure ends and the next begins.
Jean Pike has taught architecture, drawing and design at Pratt Institute, Pratt Rome and Yale. Her richly elegant charcoal drawings are wonderfully expressive and capture the body in both movement and in repose, often in the same work.
Claude Garache is a French artist living in Paris. His work offers us a view into the human psyche, a world in which vulnerability may be a necessity for survival, as well as a threat to it. Garache's etchings and lithographs explore the body's fundamental connection to the rhythms of the world.
