Commensalism
by Moon Gallery
Location: Moon Gallery
Artist(s): HUR Jin
Date: 4 Nov - 29 Nov 2011

Moon Gallery proudly presents “Commensalism – Hur Jin Solo Exhibition”, an exhibition featuring the Ink Paintings of the artist from the legendary Korean Ink painting family.

Known as one of the most influential artist of this generation in Korea, Professor Hur Jin is the 5th generation direct decedent of the legendary master Sochi (1808-1893), who established the influential Ullinsanbang painting style in the 17th century Korea. The family have carried the tradition of the Ullinsanbang style since and produced important painters from each generation.

Hur Jin’s works explore his experience of humanity, and its relationship with the problem of environment, ecology and civilization. The recovery of humanity has become the main theme of his art. The images of animals such as goat, camel, zebra and elephant are overwhelming, standing for a wild, primitive vitality. Groups of human figures are represented in black and white and the everyday objects including cellular phone, cork extractor, microphone…etc are presented alongside.

Loyal to his Ullinsanbang style background, Hur Jin also introduces a contemporary approach towards Korean Ink painting. With the new and old approach toward Korean Ink Painting, Hur Jin breaks through a new ground for Korean Contemporary Ink painting.

“Commensalism – HUR Jin Exhibition” is an exhibition offers a different view to contemporary Ink painting that we rarely see in Hong Kong. This is surely a not-to-be-missed exhibition for art lovers.

Moon Gallery Hong Kong continues to be the leading gallery to promote Japanese, Korean, British and Chinese contemporary art, and to exhibit the most influential artists of today and tomorrow.
