Wu Hao's square shapes give the impression of a strong interaction with Color Field painting. However in Wu's Square shapes, the gesture and the usage of extra paint-texture brushstrokes are in contrast with Color Field paintings who are characterized primarily by larger fields of flat solid color stained in the canvas. Wu's stylistic repetition and the usage of paint-texure brushstrokes in his Colored Webs are his vehicles to capture a symphony of mysterious light between these webs.

Hao Wu's paintings appear to be purely abstract, but his titles ints at specific subjects, without any claim to explain.
