Borders and Landscapes
by The Peak Suite
Location: The Peak Suite
Artist(s): Richard JORDAN
Date: 19 May - 26 Jun 2011

To celebrate our First Anniversary, we are pleased to present Richard Jordan for the first time in Asia with a solo exhibition of works in The Peak Suite gallery, Hong Kong from 19 May to 26 June 2011.

Consisting largely of abstract paintings on canvas that revel in the transposition of short dots and marks over fields of colour and patterns of stripes. Jordan expresses in his work the twin poles of sublime joy and personal suffering. His work is intimately connected with his mental health: the artist works were smaller and brighter at the beginning of his career. As Jordan became to struggle and suffer with his psychological state his paintings became darker. At the depths of his illness his paintings were completely black and only after successfully undergoing medical treatment did colours returned to his work, as those of today.

Twenty years later, we can look at the paintings from Richard Jordan with profound admiration.

American artist Richard Jordan began his studies in New York and Vermont in the early 1980s. After graduation, he worked as an assistant for Helen Frankenthaler, known as an exponent of American abstract expressionism, until moving to Berlin in I985. Hans Hofmann has also influenced Richard Jordan over the years.

Richard Jordan's work has been exhibited internationally in both Europe and United States, he has been represented by Galerie Haas in Berlin since the early 1990s. Gérard Lasés of The Peak Suite gallery wish to thank Mr. Michael Haas for this opportunity to present Richard Jordan in Hong Kong.
