It has been said that “Life is like a Drama”; thus, this exhibition attempts to review the development of Ann’s artistic life through her dramatic artworks. This is a retrospective exhibition showcasing Ann’s artworks in the past 10 years.
Working with acrylic, Ann shows her heavy brushwork with swollen and coiling lines on large canvases whereas when working with ink and paper, Ann portraits elegant, fluid, cursive, soft and delicate female figures through her veteran calligraphic brushwork and lines. At the same time, Ann expresses her passionate sentiments through her vibrant and vivid colours. All these contrasts and similarities suggest the diverse personality of Ann developed from her multicultural experiences when living in China, Japan, Korea and the U.S.
“In the paintings, each line represents one’s life. Loading the canvas with numerous lines forms a fascinating drama”, said Ann.
Ann Niu is a well established artist and her works have been acquired by both public institutions and private collectors all around the world. In the exhibition, Sin Sin, lifestyle creator and director of the gallery, will also be showcasing some of her collections and designs as a preview to her own story of drama coming up in December.
