Diverse- 40 x 40
by Sin Sin Fine Art
Location: Sin Sin Annex
Artist(s): Andy DEWANTORO, Jumaldi ALFI
Date: 12 Nov - 13 Dec 2009

With different tendency in their artistic approaches, Sin Sin Fine Art is pleased to present "Diverse - 40 x 40" featuring three contemporary Indonesian artists, Andy Dewantoro, Jumaldi Alfi and Nasirun.

Andy Dewantoro (born in Tanjung Karang, Lampung, South Sumatra, Indonesia in 1973) is known for his darkened images, glimpses of the view that emerges from a memory made up of cinematic fragments. The houses alongside the street and its surroundings rhythmically light up the night and radiate emotions with allegorical memories transport to a place, where we've once visited before.

Jumaldi Alfi (born in Lintau, West Sumatra, Indonesia in 1973) creates with a pattern that mixes representational images and abstractions. He explores possibilities of formal aspects in painting such as: scratches, strokes, colors, spontaneous lines and superior balance, or composition on the whole canvas in a string of images close to things which are remembered. It finally becomes a game of pure signs and ambiguities.

Nasirun (born in Cilacap, Central Java, Indonesia in 1965) intensely processes the image of figures and creatures from the realm of tradition and cartoons like imagery into mystical characters. He makes his paintings by pouring his strong feelings into each of his works, very clearly, with colors and powerful strokes, creating a horizon that emits the mystery of life. These paintings are the spontaneous responses of the media available and reproductions of Sin Sin Fine Art invitation cards from the last 6 years. He presents them into interesting fragments of colors and strong scratches, showing reactions of his emotion, in a very intense way.

The presentation of all of their works in a gallery space showing the response to this space, size and format, becomes an interesting dialogue besides revealing the latest developments in aesthetic diversity of contemporary art practices in Indonesia. Furthermore, poetically, each of their works has the ability to build a conversation about memory and many personal feelings. The strength of the differences in each work can make a “knot” – a meaning which is very close to the individual values in this various and unique cultural life.
