Lecture Series on Regional Revitalisation Through Art
by Sense Art Studio

Location: Mandarin Oriental, HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity
Artist(s): Fram KITAGAWA
Date: 26 Feb - 27 Feb 2011

The Setouchi International Art Festival 2010 was the first art event in the world using the sea (Seto Inland Sea) as a stage. The upcoming fifth Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial to be held in 2012 will have the mountains and rice-fields of Nigata Prefecture as its canvas. Both Festivals aim to use Art to bring vitality back to local communities suffering from depopulation and economic decay.  During the Festivals, site-specific works of art were created by artists in collaboration with local residents and supporters from all over the world.  As a result, contemporary art became a mean to encourage and celebrate cultural exchange between visitors and local residents.

Mr. Fram Kitagawa will discuss the visions and objectives of the Festivals during the lecture, as well as share with the audience his perspective and future direction of contemporary art.

Artists and volunteers interested in participating in the fifth Echigo-Tsumari Triennial in 2012 will have a chance to meet the Festival organisers at the lecture.
