One Hour
by 2P Contemporary Art Gallery
Location: 2P Contemporary Art Gallery
Artist(s): Morgan WONG
Date: 1 Sep - 28 Oct 2011

2P Contemporary Art Gallery is pleased to present the opening of One Hour, a solo exhibition of work by Hong Kong artist Morgan Wong.

One Hour is a renunciation of time in an era of instantaneous communication featuring Morgan Wong's performance in his investigation conceived during his artist residency in Japan, 2010. Situated against the arctic backdrop of Sapporo, Wong subverts the linear progression of events to survey a new spectrum coupled with methodical observation where temporal physics no longer necessitates sense. The exhibition comprises installations of video, photography and mixed media works detailing footage of Wong traversing through an expanse of desolation. Facilitated by technology and integrating permutations of motion to simulate a sequence of corporeal suspension, One Hour also proffers the viewer a hypothetical paradox where all time and spatial distinctions are rendered mentally and physically obsolete.

Morgan Wong was born in Hong Kong in 1984 and received his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong in 2007. He will commence his Master's Degree at Slade School of Fine Art, London, UK later this year. His works have been exhibited extensively across Asia at the OYOYO Art Center, Sapporo, Japan; Videotage, Hong Kong; Para/Site Art Space, Hong Kong. Winner of the 2008 Silver Award for Single Screen-based Interactive Media Category at the Hong Kong Independent Film & Video Awards, Wong also participates in major group shows, encompassing “No Soul For Sale” in the Tate Modern, London, UK; Turin Palace Museum (Palazzo Chiablese), Turin, Italy; Fremantle Art Centre, Perth, Australia; Mizuma & One Gallery, Beijing, China; Suwon Art Centre, Suwon, Korea; GalleryLOOP, Seoul, Korea; and Nanhai Gallery, Taipei, Taiwan.
