by Above Second Gallery
Location: Above Second Gallery
Artist(s): Charles MUNKA
Date: 24 Jun - 23 Jul 2011

Coming up real soon to the hallowed walls of Above Second is an exhibition by Charles Munka. Hailing from France and currently residing in Hong Kong, Charles will be showcasing new paintings that will be freshly revealed to the hearts and minds of the city. The show opens on June 24, 2011, so don’t miss out on a night with good art and good company. Click in after the jump to get more details and art.

Each painting represents the trace of an ephemeral experience. The imaginary memories that are continuously being reopened and reinterpreted on canvas and paper through raw symbols, lines, and compositions. Referencing places and images that communicate with each other, while curating a vision of countless moments being seen at once. Similar to Charles Munka’s past exhibitions, his sole purpose is to recreate a universe within the gallery space. Exploring the contents of the mind and how our experience define our perceptions of the world.

ABOUT CHARLES MUNKA
Those familiar with Andrew Meza’s BTS and Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder collective, will recognize the work of Charles Munka, also known as QUES. A member of the French art crew, LCP United, Munka’s style is strongly influenced by hip-hop and the progressive L.A. beat scene. Using mixed media, Munka’s work captures a new style of art that blends more traditional aspects of graffiti and his identification with contemporary and historical imagery from film, video games, and pop art.

He was widely recognized for his ‘Finest Elements’ series of animated representations of artists such as MF DOOM, Madlib, J Dilla, Flying Lotus, RZA, and amongst other notable producers and MCs.

Munka has toured extensively throughout Asia, America and Europe creating his art live at Brainfeeder events and most recently, during Samiyam gigs in Korea and Shanghai.
