Zhongshan and Hong Kong Watercolor Artists Exchange Exhibition
by Wan Fung Art Gallery
Location: Wan Fung Art Gallery
Date: 23 Oct - 3 Nov 2010

“Zhongshan and Hong Kong Watercolor Artists Exchange Exhibition” will first start from 23 October 2010 to 3 November 2010 in Wan Fung Art Gallery. This exhibition is organized by Wan Fung Art Gallery, the Federation of Literary and Art Circles of Zhongshan and the Zhongshan Artists Association on the purpose of promoting the artistic and cultural exchange between Zhongshan and Hong Kong watercolor artists. With the great support from the Zhongshan and Hong Kong artists, 20 watercolor artists from Hong Kong and 11 watercolors artists from Zhongshan would take part in the exhibitions with a total of 62 watercolor paintings.

In December, 2008, the National Development and Reform Commission announced “The Outline of the Plan for the Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta (2008-2020)” which indicates that there will be more opportunities for cooperation in economic and social development between Hong Kong and the other cities of the Pearl River Delta. Zhongshan is a city adjacent to Hong Kong; though, our understanding towards Zhongshan may just be limited to Mr. Sun Yat Sen’s former residence or the Agile Garden. For that reason, Wan Fung Art Gallery now organizes the “Zhongshan and Hong Kong Watercolor Artists Exchange Exhibition” in order to provide an opportunity for the artists of Zhongshan and Hong Kong to meet and share their experience with each other. Looking at the exhibits, the works of the Zhongshan artists and the works of the Hong Kong artists are very distinct from each other, and their works reflect the characteristics of each of their own place. The artworks by the Hong Kong artists show the liveliness of our place and our adaptation to foreign cultures; whereas the artworks by the Zhongshan artists reflect their local culture and philosophy. For the public, this is a valuable opportunity for us to see numerous artworks created by the best watercolors artists from Zhongshan and Hong Kong.

“Zhongshan and Hong Kong Watercolor Artists Exchange Exhibition” will open on 3pm, Saturday, 23 October, 2010 in Wan Fung Art Gallery. Most of the participating artists would attend the opening ceremony and share their thoughts of their works with us. We would like to invite the public to come along and meet our artists in person. An art album of this exhibition would be gifted to the visitors in the first day of the exhibition. The exhibition will be tour exhibited in Zhongshan Wan Fung Art Gallery in late Novemeber and a series of academic seminars will be held. We believe these activities would further enhance the cultural exchange and the friendship between the artists of Hong Kong and Zhongshan. “Zhongshan and Hong Kong Watercolor Artists Exchange Exhibition” is only a kick start of our project on artistic and cultural exchange; we are planning more activities for the art development of both mainland and Hong Kong.
