Whisper of the girls and flowers
by Wan Fung Art Gallery
Location: Wan Fung Art Gallery, Hong Kong
Artist(s): TSUI Yuen, POON Yeua Fai
Date: 21 Aug - 30 Aug 2010

This summer, from 21 to 30 August, 2010, Wan Fung Art Gallery will present to you the “Whispers of the Girls and Flowers - Exhibition of Poon Yeuk Fai and Tsui Yuen”, showcasing more than 50 artworks of Poon and Tsui, including their first two collective paintings which were specially created for their first joint exhibition. The opening reception will start at 3pm, 21 August. Wan Fung Art Gallery invites all art lovers to celebrate their first joint exhibition and to share their artistic harvest.

Poon’s artworks feature young “Hong Kong girls” with signature poses. The girls’ facial expression and poses were captured by Poon’s artistically and creative brushstrokes. The young girls look extraordinarily cute and beautiful in Poon’s paintings. Tsui’s artworks depict flowers and fishes with elegant color tone under her unique style. In reality, you can see flowers in the garden and fishes in the sea, but you will never see them in the same place. However, that is possible in Tsui’s world of art. In her works, the beautiful flowers and fishes together form the subject of the painting, showing a sense of harmony beyond imagination. Poon and Tsui had collectively painted two artworks for their first joint exhibition. When they were discussing about the details of their first collective painting - “Harmony”, they had some arguments, which is not as romantic as what we would expect of an artist couple. However, the final painting produced by them presents a strong sense of harmony.

Poon Yeuk Fai and Tsui Yuen are young outstanding artists in Hong Kong. They both graduated from acclaimed universities in Mainland China and have devoted their life to art creation for many years. Nowadays, the artistic environment is influenced by the capitalistic and opportunistic society. Many people are lost in this materialistic world. Some artists may have forgotten their original purpose of being an artist. Poon Yeuk Fai and Tsui Yuen are the ones who are still faithful to their belief in art and beauty. Because of this faith, Poon’s artworks were selected to be displayed in the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Award 2009. We believe that they will continue with their faith and receive more achievements in the future.

Wan Fung Art Gallery cordially invites you to the opening reception for Whispers of the Girls and Flowers – Exhibition of Poon Yeuk Fai and Tsui Yuen at 3pm, Saturday, 21 August, 2010
