The painter has incorporated his philosophical ideals into his works. He chose to compose interior circles inside exterior squares, which might look simple but aim to achieve the effect of "less is more," a widely-acknowledged international concept of art.
Liu's "Lingnan Lacquers" were recently exhibited in Germany. The Chairman of Frankfurt Art Association told Liu excitedly: "I used to believe that Chinese lacquer paintings were no more than craft works of flowers and grasses, but your works have not only embraced the oriental culture with the use of Chinese traditional materials but also displayed modern artistic characteristics, which are quite in conformity with the international aesthetic…"
About the Artist:
Born in Lincang County, Yunnan Province, graduated from Southwest Normal University with a major in Chinese traditional painting, and he completed an advanced course at the Chinese Mineral Painting Institute in 2002. He specializes in traditional Chinese painting, especially in heavy-colored painting. He was invited by Southwest Normal University and Dunhuang Academy to replicate frescos and study the ancient mineral painting.
