Countless famous artists like to paint a self-portrait as a memento of the occasion for themselves. In fact, the intent of portraits is not only to depict the visual appearance of the subject, but also the sitter's inner psychology or state of mind. Wan Fung Art Gallery proudly presents to you the ‘Portrait of Top 100 Chinese Contemporary Artists - Oil Painting Exhibition of Fung Hok Ting’ from 21 - 30 September in Hong Kong Wan Fung Art Gallery.

Mr. Fung Hok Ting is a talented artist and he is obsessed with studying painting techniques. During his career as an artist, he suddenly felt that most famous western painters such as Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, etc, can become the world's greatest artists partly because they published their artworks in a systematic way through academic research and dissemination. Likewise, there are countless amazing artists in China. Although some of the artists such as Qi Baishi, Zhang Daqian and Xu Beihong are already very famous around the world, many other artists who made much contribution to the development of Chinese art are neglected by us. As a result, Mr. Fung decided to select 150 famous Chinese artists, painted their portrait and published an art book in order to introduce these outstanding painters to the rest of the world.

Mr. Fung use these masters’ artwork as the background of the portrait and he focus on capturing the essence of their original artwork, which is a tribute to these masters in Chinese art field.

Fung Hok Ting who was born in 1944 is a native Fujiang. As an artist with over 40 years of Chinese calligraphy and painting experience, his pieces have been displayed in over 15 cities and countries, numerous of his art pieces have also been awarded in various competitions and collected by Chinese art admirers. He is now a chairman of Xiang Giang International Calligraphy and Painting Society, the sub dean of Fujiang Province Flourishing Age & New Century Calligraphy and Painting Faculty; a member of Chinese Artist Society (Fugiang Province); a member of Chinese Calligraphist Council. His biography is found in ‘Famous Contemporary Artists of China’ and ‘The Book of Fujiang Literature and Art Work Artist’. In 1997, Hong Kong Arts Development Council sponsored Mr Fung to publish a book called ‘Collection of Carving a Seal by Fung Hok Ting’. In May of 2011, he published another book called ‘The Portrait of 100 Chinese Contemporary Artist’ that took him five years to accomplish it.
