Grtchen Sagan is an international artist and independent curator based in Anchorage, Alaska. She creates arresting prints, a tumult of geometric shapes merging with forms that are clearly not borrowed exclusively from the visual sphere. For her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, the Inupiaq eskimo artist presents a series of original etchings, using traditional engraving and drypoint technique. These works communicate visual meaning to us first on the level of composition then secondly, sensation. Sagan is an example of an artist, who on her curator's path gives up her direct belonging to any side of borders, being located in he first range in herself.
Since the millennium, Sagan's artwork has been shown worldwide, including the Museum of Art, Anchorage Alaska, Sotheby's Institute of Art, New York, Pratt Museum of Natural History, Homer, Alaska, Art Depot Gallery, Tallinn, Estonia, International Gallery of Contemporary Art, Anchorage, International Print Triennale, Beograd, and the Alaska House, New York. In 2010, Sagan was one of ten artists to be recognized with a Rasmuson Foundation Artist Fellowship.
