May Flowers
by New Gallery on Old Bailey
Location: Hong Kong Cultural Centre
Artist(s): CHA Young Seok, LEI Zhen Hua, Hephaistion & Saffle, Emily ELDRIDGE
Date: 23 May - 26 May 2011

New Gallery on Old Bailey is pleased to present “May Flowers”, an art exhibition by 5 Asia-based emerging artists at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from May 23 to May 26, 2011. This show will consist of original artworks of the participating artists including B9, Cha Young Seok, Emily Eldridge and Lei Zhen Hua.

Hephaistion and Saffie, better known as B9, work together as one unit. In this exhibit they incorporated the traditional art of Chinese paper cutting into their newest creations. They infused energy into the canvas with the use of bright color and dynamic patterns.

Korean artist Cha Young Seok draws on paper with his pencil, ballpoint pen and ink. We can find extreme delicate details on his work practice. Cha’s images call for superb concentration, patient and authenticity. Hong Kong based American illustrator Emily Eldridge reinvents cardboard boxes and rubbish materials as the canvas for her quirky illustrations, which feature a cast of stylishly-coiffed ladies and peculiar-looking characters to the audience.

Chinese artist Lei Zhen Hua offers an exciting visionary concept of nature and the landscape. Working in the medium of oil on canvas, Lai’s work is inspired by Chinese-style scenery paintings.

“May Flowers” joint exhibition will be on view at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from May 23 to May 26, 2011. Admission is free for all visitors.

Opening Reception: Tue May 24 2011, 6:30pm
