New Gallery on Old Bailey unveils a two-person exhibition of works by Hong Kong artists Eliza Cheng and Eric Ng.
This dual exhibition displays vibrant abstract paintings that celebrate the beauty of nature and the love of life. Eliza captures nature on a wide picture plane; offering viewers completely different perspectives. “Figurative images are readily identified when the art pieces are viewed at a distance. However, at a closer level, the interactions between color textures and paint textures show a new drama, vigor and urgency”. Eric’s works take on a completely abstract form. He was inspired by children riding their bicycles to school in the countryside. He believes “art originates from life. Life reveals art”. Eric invites viewers to take a pause and enjoy life away from the concrete jungle.
Eliza Cheng was born in Hong Kong. She received an MFA in Painting with the Academy of Art University, San Francisco in 2011. Through delving into the subject of abstract painting during her years of study, the bodies of her art have embraced a major shift from representational roots to pure conceptual compositions and abstract expressionism. She had three solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions in Hong Kong. She was shortlisted for a New York based AIR program organized by the HK Arts Development Council in 2011. Her work was selected into the juried competition and exhibition by HK Oil Painting Research Society.
Eric Ng graduated from the Australia RMIT University, majoring in Fine Arts. Ng has been invited to perform live painting in numerous venues such as AsiaWorld-Expo, Noah’s Ark Park, Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Elements and Hong Kong Jockey Club, and in different art events such as Asia Contemporary Art Show in 2012, Ng’s solo exhibition ‘Time Box Machine’ and Island Shangri- La Bank Art Fair in 2013. Ng was invited to participate in an exhibition in Florence, Italy. He was interviewed by an Italian media Chianti Banca.
