Hong Kong has evolved from a small fishing village into a metropolis over the past two centuries. Zhang Qiang captures the purest side of the city with his roaming eye, recalling memories of the past. Offering the opportunity for a tranquil moment away from the hustle and bustle, the ‘Sea and Shore’ exhibition comprises two series of paintings; one depicting scenery of the harbour and the shore, and the other, landscapes of several Hong Kong Geoparks.
In the Geopark series, the artist has depicted a most intriguing side of Hong Kong’s shoreline. One of the paintings ‘Outspace Guests’, is inspired by hexagonal columnar jointed pyroclastic rocks in Sai Kung, which is a must-go Hong Kong Geopark tourist destination. The other series captures the beauty of various shores and bays at particular times during the day or night.
Zhang Qiang spent two years preparing the many large-scale paintings in the exhibition. He creates immaculately executed works that engage viewers, such as 'Looking Pat Sin Lang from Tolo Harbour', which creates a singular image of the breathtaking beauty of Tolo Habour and allows the viewer to experience a timeless aesthetic.
