Earth is often viewed as the mother of life. People live on the earth and go back to the earth when they leave this world. Clay, the finest part of the earth, is used everywhere in our life. Since the prehistory, it was used to build houses as well as to make vessels. It's such a common and usual material we take it for granted.
Shin Hwa gallery proudly introduces CHOI JEIL, Korean contemporary ceramic artist who takes the clay serious. His works are best known for their minimal design and sophisticated glazing. Their shapes are decent and dainty. The lines are so refined and confident that it gives away a sense of strictness. At the same time the glaze is subtle and elegant. It generously wraps the shape around. It's a nice harmony between tension and warm grace.
This exhibition will show his tableware collection as well as his signature work 'bird' series.
CHOI JEIL lives and works in Seong Nam, Korea.
