Korean artist Lim Taek scrolls out his shan shui (landscape) in a multi-dimensional synthesis with his contemporary paradigm.
Having started his path as an artist in oriental paintings, he’s been searching for an ideal way of making shan shui hua (landscape painting) more interactive: painter delivering the scenery to viewers and viewers diving into the scenery to enjoy it.
He firstly makes sculptures to create his installation works – the artist’s own shan shui, moved landscape. Secondly he takes pictures of them and prepares his paysage. Finally he places objets from both his experiences and imagination in the digitalized images to render them alive. The landscape is moved by his artistic search and now the journey is open to us.
In his shan shui, a banana turns into a crescent moon. Cherry blossoms bloom amidst the flowery cloud. A man rides on a flying bird.
His works are truly witty parodies mixed with his fantasy and landscapes, as well as the collage of past and present time. He’s inviting us to join his journey to his world, located in the border of fantasy and reality.
The exhibition opens in the presence of the artist on October 16th at 6h30 pm in Shin Hwa Gallery.
The press is invited to the artist talk with LIM Taek on October 15th in Shin Hwa Gallery. Invitations with more detail will be sent out shortly.
