Koon Wai Bong, selected by Hong Kong's last Contemporary Art Biennial Awards as one of Hong Kong’s best artists, is coming back to Blue Lotus Gallery with a second solo exhibition.
Koon’s traditional ink-and-brush landscape and insect paintings have a strong link with the Chinese masterworks from the past, yet convey a very modern feeling. Koon’s work is composed by skilled strokes which seem effortless and necessary, often laid out in a minimal composition accentuated by the use of negative space. Koon is very passionate about the Chinese classical ink painting, which is a challenging and difficult path to choose today and very often a lonely one. Koon is Hong Kong’s youngest 'master' who took many years to develop his own style for without rushing into this art market. He is truly a rare gem who will shine for many years to come.
For this exhibition, apart from his signature style scrolls and paintings, Koon will also show his new experimental and installation works for the first time. The artist will be present at the opening.
Opening: Sunday 7 November (4-6pm) 2010
