Bloom
by Blue Lotus Gallery
Location: Blue Lotus Gallery, stage 1
Date: 21 Dec 2008 - 24 Jan 2009

Opening:
Dec 21st 2008 Sun 3pm

Stage 1 proudly presents Sarah Lai’s solo painting exhibition: ‘Bloom’.

Lai will be showing a series of paintings representing images of nuclear explosions.
Inside the exhibition space, one will find to be surrounded by paintings and pencil drawings of mushroom clouds. The moment of the convulsed action is frozen and lengthened. In contrast to the bold meaning of the image, the execution is done in soft pastel tones which create a sense of peace and quietness. Under Lai’s fine softly brushstrokes, we can’t hear the violence and the loud ‘boom’ sound of the attack. In other works the moon and airplanes are pictured which in relation to the explosions create associations to painful moments in the past.
