Four Corners II (2008) by KOON Wai Bong
30 x 30 cm
Ink & color on paper

Cultural identity and “Chineseness” are always the central exploration of my creation. Inheriting visual language and aesthetic ideology from the art of China, my artworks try to bestow new meanings on these language and signs through destruction and reconstruction. Chinese painting, especially the tradition of literati painting, emphasizes on the expression of the inner self of the artist through depicting the natural world with brushwork and ink tone variation. Inheriting the expressive visual language of Chinese art, my work of art attempts to modernize the genre, landscape painting by employing a strong, lively, and restless brushwork, as well as a geometrical and dramatic composition. The series of ‘White’ and ‘Black’ are the possibility to explore space and ink tone variation.
