sova* is the word for Owl. It is a symbol of the brand and one of the designer’s favourite animals – in Czech.
The designer, Ms. Kaoru Ishikawa, is self-taught of how to create bags and small goodies using different unique textiles, beautiful coloration and modern patterns of antique kimono and vintage fabrics after her graduated. It is because of her grandmother’s kimono inspired her to step forward, tries to create items which can be used in everyday life, under the concept of “Cherishing the Old; Creating the New” even the items that are nearly to being thrown away can be recycled and given a new life.
She will hold her Solo Exhibition in Hong Kong by giving a precious workshop on selected days to Hong Kong’ Handmade-Lovers. The Exhibition scheduled on May 11th to May 29th, 2011; and the workshops will be given on May 14th and 15th, sharing how to make card-holder using vintage kimono fabrics by yourself.
She is one of the successful designers in Japan by holding different exhibitions and activities in galleries and department stores, collaborating with famous designers for the projects. Last year she also released a book in multi-languages, and be invited to broadcast in NHK television program. She said she would like to keep moving on her passion towards hand making which makes her enrich her experiences and portfolios in the past decade through meeting up different people in different places; through the people who loves her works and give her a warm support.
