Building on the success of NY:LON @ KONG Exhibition by Neil Dawson in August 2009, The Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) is going to organize another cityscape exhibition with more artists in October 2009. The exhibition, titled In the City, not only includes NEW LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION by Paul Kenton, but also LE artworks of our NEW FEMALE ARTIST, Lesley Anne Derks. Neil Dawson’s cityscapes will also be seen in this exhibition.
In The City is an abstract and energetic cityscape exhibition which depicts the hustle and bustle of busy Paris, London and New York, whilst at the same time also reflecting the glorious magnetic glow created by city lights. Paul Kenton returned to the mono-tone style in his previous work “In the City” and “Skyline”, and interested in depicting night scenes in Paris. Working in acrylic and oils, his signature free flowing fusion of various media captures the vibrancy, speed and edgy buzz that emanates from modern city life. On the other hand, our new artist Leasley Anne Derks is more fascinated by the palpable energy of big cities at night. Born and brought up in Grangemouth, Scotland, Lesley Anne was amazed by the strange orange night glow in the industrial city. Grangemouth’s halos of colours continued to influence her and she used enamel and oils in this collection to create a soft luminous glow and romantic feel which becomes her unique cityscape style.
