INTENSE LIGHT
by Wittgenstein Editions Gallery
Location: Wittgenstein Editions Gallery
Artist(s): Stuart REDLER
Date: 23 Apr - 19 Jun 2009

Wittgenstein Editions Gallery is delighted to present “INTENSE LIGHT”, the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong by British photographer Stuart Redler.

The exhibition shows an amazing series of black and white photographs exploring the people, architecture and nature of the African country including new images of Rajastan. The photographs of INTENSE LIGHT have been taken during the artist trips to Africa and India, which includes the deserts. The desert’s constant intense light and its starkness reminded Redler of the numerous deserts and arid locations he has visited all over the world in the past.

Redler’s taste for travel to far flung places such as Namibia and Saudi Arabia has cultivated his talent for capturing unusual architecture, quirky people and bizarre facets of nature. The unexpected and sometimes humorous subject matter, combined with the intense contrasts of black and white and use of strong light sources, give his pictures their stark and unique style.

Gallery owner Julie Wittgenstein is excited about the new exhibition. “Stuart’s photographs are a real decorative art, unique to Hong Kong and will bring a dramatic touch to your interior,” she said. Stuart Redler started his career in advertising, but now specialises in fine art photography. He has
received many awards, including six from the Association of Photographers and from Graphis, PDN and Communication Arts among others. His works are also appearing in numerous private collections, as well as in permanent collections like the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

His work has also appeared in numerous publications, including The Daily Telegraph, The Independent on Sunday and Tatler. www.stuartredler.com
