Greet the Cultural Fusion with a Hail: Baking
When two waves colliding and landing on a single shore, the tide of inevitable reactions explode. The rapid development of Chinese society nowadays and under the impact of Western culture, the concept of modern Chinese culture appears chaotic and communication is difficult. Ink, fiber paper, Chinese characters, burning - these are the symbols of Chinese culture. The artist hopes to use the four elements, the most representative symbols of Chinese culture, to evoke reflections on cultural transition.
Baking, the solo exhibition by Xie Xiaobing, displays the artist's thoughts tied to cultural interpretations of the birth of a new era.
"Charred black wood, dense and the orderly placement of Chinese characters… the viewer is left with a burning sense reminiscent of a ceremony and abundant with symbolic meaning. There is an imposing and dignified existence, never interfering with the transition into your visual system. It is a way to silent answers. Like a substance in excess of the city’s ancient pine tree, it is still vigorous. There are unlimited possibilities to develop with the mediums of ink and paper. They can interpret the relationship between being and nothingness; they can also demonstrate the moment of the Big Bang. For us, the strokes of ink, paper fibre, Chinese characters and burning, these are unavoidable Chinese cultural symbols. These are also the artist’s reflections on the high-speed development of Chinese society and the moment’s changing culture."
