Tai O Panorama: Painting Exhibition cum Charity Sale’ launched to raise funds to promote and preserve Tai O's cultural heritage and natural environment

Tai O is a special place in a cosmopolitan city like Hong Kong. Here you can still find a traditional fishing village with enchanting scenery and quaint customs. Tai O has attracted a large number of visitors over the years and also served as a source of inspiration for many artists.

A new cultural, historical and environmental tourist destination in Tai O
The Hong Kong Heritage Conservation Foundation Limited (HCF) is a non-profit organisation established to revitalise and preserve heritage buildings, and promote the conservation and appreciation of heritage and historic places, and their importance in the life of the community. The first HCF project is the sensitive conversion of the Old Tai O Police Station into a boutique hotel, namely the Tai O Heritage Hotel. The hotel will allow visitors, tourists and the Tai O community to establish a connection with the spirit of the Old Tai O Police Station, and also to promote Tai O as a cultural, historical and environmental tourist destination to local and overseas visitors. To foster local business and tourism, the Tai O Heritage Hotel will align with various organisations and the Tai O community to initiate a series of programmes, such as the Old Tai O Police Station heritage tour, the Tai O food expo series and hiking.

Fascinating paintings capture Tai O's unique cultural landscape and natural beauty
To tie in with the Old Tai O Police Station revitalisation project, 50 paintings by 10 veteran local artists such as Au Yeung Nai Chim and Shen Ping, will showcase the unique cultural landscape and natural beauty of Tai O, including her stilt houses, salted fish, shrimp paste, traditional rope-drawn ferry, mangroves and colourful sunsets. Respected local painter Mr Kong Kai Ming is acting as exhibition consultant.

For this exhibition, participating artists have dedicated time to Tai O and created a number of works and sketches. The exhibition also features their earlier works on the same theme. This is a remarkable opportunity to glimpse the gorgeous scenery and traditional customs of Tai O seen over time through the eyes of the artists. ‘Tai O Panorama: Painting Exhibition cum Charity Sale’ will be held from 26 March to 19 April 2010, at 1/F Lobby, Central Plaza and OC Gallery, Olympian City 1.

The charity sale will raise funds for the promotion and preservation of Tai O's cultural heritage and natural environment by the HCF.
