Apart from Apart – Joint Exhibition of Young Local Artists’ – revealing the exquisite sensitivity and sentiment towards daily life of seven emerging local young artists
(28 September 2009) Apart from physical distance, what other possible interpretations are there for the word ‘apart’? Seven emerging local artists respond to this question through their creations. Using a variety of western media such as oils, acrylics, watercolours and photography, they explore and reconfigure their own interpretations of space, and represent it on a two dimensional plane. Whether the corner of a bedroom, the vast sky or grass along the road, all are the source of creative inspiration.
The seven young local artists, who were born, grew up and educated in Hong Kong, have actively participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions in recent years. They all have received formal art training in Hong Kong, obtaining a solid foundation and knowledge in the arts. Many aspects of their works, such as the composition and the use of colour, reflect meticulous skills and deliberate handling.
The artists refer to personal experience and living environments in the search for the meaning of ‘space’, a seemingly abstract theme. Their works imbue a sense of modernity and timelessness, evoking infinite imagination to viewers, as well as revealing exquisite sensitivity and sentiment.
‘Apart from Apart – Joint Exhibition of Young Local Artists’ showcases nearly 20 works. The work reflects the artists’ individual understanding and interpretation of the material world, and also reveals the artists’ sensitivity towards daily life, coinciding with the aim of Sino Group’s ‘Art in Hong Kong’ to bring art into the lives of Hong Kong people.
