‘Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?’ are among the most fundamental questions posed by artists throughout history. These questions – which form the famous title of one of Paul Gauguin’s most important and celebrated works – serve as the starting point for a new body of work by Hong Kong contemporary artist Margaret Chu on view in Central Plaza from 10th September to 25th October, 2011.

Sino Group’s ‘Art in Hong Kong’ is delighted to present ‘Whispers to Passers-by - Margaret Chu Solo Exhibition’, a collection of works which explores the artist’s inquisitive quest for her identity and direction in life. Through her experimental and introspective artistic journey, Chu strives to engage the audience passing by to interact with the stories depicted in her works so as to inspire them to embark on a similar quest for answers to life’s greatest questions.

Born and bred in Hong Kong, Chu has a wide-range of in-depth experience in many creative fields, including design, art creation, and art administration. It is her hope that through her creative endeavours she is able to help build a better future for all.

‘Whispers to Passers-by’ presents a brand new body of Chu’s work that illustrates the talent and artistic views of this rising Hong Kong female artist, while providing inspiring insight into her creative process. The stories portrayed through her map paintings and bottle installations are reflections on her own identity, ultimate goals, directions and destinations in life. The exhibition is also homage to Paul Gauguin’s masterpiece ‘Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?’.
