The Dreamscape – Joint Exhibition of 10 Budding Artists’ Exhibition
by Central Plaza
Location: Central Plaza
Date: 15 Jul - 4 Sep 2011

When we were young, we might well have been passionate dreamers full of imagination. What about our younger generation now? In this summer vacation, Sino Group's 'Art in Hong Kong' joins hands with the young art studio CreativeKids to present 'The Dreamscape - Joint Exhibition of 10 Budding Artists', featuring 10 different yet candid, daring dreams of our younger generation. Under the guidance of local artists Wong Tin Yan, Sarah Lai, Angelina Lo-Chui, Angelica Fung, Irene Yiu and Ken Chan, 10 students and alumni from CreativeKids, a local and visionary children’s art studio, express their aspirations on their future career through the media of collage, installation and painting.

Between dream and reality
Many teenagers have high aspirations for their future careers. Sometimes they will even look for a summer job to catch a glimpse of working life. After they grow up, they may realize how reality contrasts with their dreams but they may still cherish those dreams that they once had. In the exhibition, Josceline Yau presents her dream of being a fashion designer in her artwork ‘Dreams come true’, in which she portrays a fashion model dressed in a stylish gown made of paper collage. Inspired by a memorable visit to a rural area of the Philippines’, Geraldine Wu has created her artwork ‘Service and Love’ to express her pursuit of helping the needy. On the other hand, Chiu Wing Lam, one of the alumni from CreativeKids, created her art installation to illustrate her multiple identities in real life. While she is currently preoccupied with work, she is trying to strike a balance between her work and ongoing pursuits. This exhibition provides a platform for dialogues between the past and present, dreams and reality.

Artists train artists
Apart from art creation, many local artists also dedicate themselves to art education. Trained by local artists Wong Tin Yan, Sarah Lai, Angelina Lo-Chui, Angelica Fung, Irene Yiu and Ken Chan, 9 of the participants are currently studying art at CreativeKids. From concept development, preparation to execution, they have worked closely together under the supervision of these teaching artists. Wong Tin Yan, local artist and art teacher, considers that the exhibition has provided a valuable opportunity for the 10 budding artists to understand the artist’s role in reality. ‘Although they have not yet undergone formal training at any art academy, they have revealed boundless creativity in their artworks’, says Wong, who hopes that this exhibition will encourage more young people to express themselves through art.

Guided tours and education workshops will be held during the exhibition period. Details will be announced soon.
