Osage Gallery participating at ART HK11
by Osage Soho
Location: Booth 1A01, Hall 1A, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
Date: 26 May - 29 May 2011

Osage Gallery is delighted to announce its participation in ARTHK11, featuring works by Poklong Anading (Manila), Lee Kit (Hong Kong), Wilson Shieh (Hong Kong), Maria Taniguchi (Manila/ London), Charwei Tsai (Taipei/ Paris), and Alvin Zafra (Manila).

Osage Gallery is pleased to participate at ARTHK11 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre 26–29 May, 2011 in the Galleries Section (Booth 1A01). As a cross disciplinary platform devoted to promoting experimental art practices and cultivating a local audience for contemporary art, we will be presenting six artists from Hong Kong and Asia.

On view is Argument from Nowhere 2000, a painting made with sandpaper and human skull by Alvin Zafra. Previously exhibited at the Mori Museum in Tokyo, this decadent artwork in fact captures an image of death. Fascinated by Hong Kong’s infatuation with skyscrapers, Wilson Shieh will present a new series of gongbi paintings that addresses the tension between tall buildings and body politics. Charwei Tsai’s Ice Exploration, 2009 are photographs that take nature as the subject matter; the gesture of using a finger to melt ice on a mirror is an intimate statement of our desire for control and destiny. Story 12 Whatever happened in a Forest 2011 by Lee Kit, representative of the potential of a younger generation of local artist, utilises the everyday as a visual narrative for an alternative diary. Maria Taniguchi’s monochromic painting unveils our relationship with simulation and questions the relevance of image making at an epoch of the internet. Similarly critical is Poklong Anading’s Untitled (Gaze) a large scale light box placed at the entrance of the fair booth, depicting a group of beholders looking into an empty space that probes spectatorship in a commercial sphere.

Kingsley Ng (Osage represented artist), Syren Johnstone and Daniel Patzold are also presenting LUNGHUA – a metal, video and sound installation as part of the ARTHK11 series of installation projects again this year.
