“Moments in Transit” : Painting Exhibition by Yim Yee-king
@ Gallery by the Harbour

Artist Yim Yee-king, known to people of Hong Kong as Ah Chung, is having his latest oil paintings on view in the upcoming exhibition in November.

“Oil painting is a medium that speaks to me. For the past decade, I show mainly works in Chinese ink with eastern philosophical messages. This time I have chosen to express my innermost sentiments towards various important elements in my life through this medium.” says Yim Yee-king.

Harbour City’s Gallery by the Harbour is pleased to announce its collaboration with Metta Fine Arts Ltd, and will be presenting Yim Yee-king’s “Moments in Transit” Painting Exhibition within the period of 31st October to 22nd November 2009. He will be in town from 23 to 24 September 2009 to attend media interviews.

“Moments in Transit” Painting Exhibition will have close to thirty new paintings on view, capturing the images inspired by the artist’s own inner yearnings. Yim Yee-king’s oil paintings reveal a highly individual style, forceful in their bold and unrestrained calligraphic lines, piercing through the canvas combined with almost three dimensional swaths of vibrant colors applied in mighty proportions. Be it the depiction of Chinese legendary figures, the cat at home, a nude lady relaxing or renditions of landscapes, we are moved by the energy, passion and emotion that are coming through to us and cannot help but marvel at how the artist feels at home in the artistic traditions of East and West.

Now at seventy-six, Yim Yee-king’s creative enthusiasm is undiminished. Becoming a full time artist as early as 1952, Yim is known for his political cartoons in the early part of his career in the 60’s. He held his first art exhibition in 1956 and since then had held over thirty exhibitions in Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States and in recent years in Mainland China. In the past decade Yim concentrated on capturing the sentiments of challenges in daily life with eloquent and lyrical paintings in Chinese ink.

Yim’s artworks are collected by the Hong Kong Museum of Art, The National Museum of Art, Taiwan, Taiwan Museum of Art and the Museum of Art, Kaoshuing and numerous private collectors.
